Interesting numbers. Surprisingly Israel (about 6.5 mil population) has approx. 1.5 million military eligible males ages 18-49.
Syrian army--what? 250,000 cowards, like the Iraqis the US faced twice?
Only Approximately 1.4 million USA (about 300 million population) personnel are currently on active duty in the military with an additional 860,000 personnel in the seven reserve components (456,000 of which are in the Army and Air National Guard). There is currently no conscription in the USA. Total reserve capacity of eligible males in the USA is huge...
Of interest. Russia is the world's largest country, but it has half the population of the USA (142.8 million). Also, the USA population is surging forward, while the population in Russia has been steadily declining.
Male life expectancy in the Russia is at about 60 years in Russia, and about 70 in the USA.
No country faces as severe a population decline as Russia. Disease, accidental death, and a decline in healthy newborns are to blame. In fact, deaths in Russia outnumber births, and most of those who die are in the 20-49 age group, the most productive segment of the population. Leading experts on the subject say such a population decline has a devastating impact on the workforce, military recruitment and family formation.
In 2005, the birth rate declined in 79 Russian regions and the death rate increased in 60 regions in the period. Russia has a yearly 38.7 suicides per 100,000 people, the second-highest suicide rate in the world.
It is estimated that there are more abortions than births in Russia. In 2004, at least 1.6 million women had an abortion ( a fifth of them under the age of 18) and about 1.5 million gave birth. The reason behind this high abortion rate is the fact that the birth of a first child pushes many families into poverty.
