Beware. This book "The Bible Fraud" is yet another bonehead attempt (full of lies and misdirections, much like the The Da Vinci Code) by satan to sow confusion. Its complete with lies such as Jesus had a twin brother.
"How well we know what a profitable superstition this fable of Christ has been for us." Pope Leo X (1513-1521) is a quote in that book "The Bible Fraud".
It is just one example of a quote that seriously challenged Australian writer Tony Bushby throws about in that book -- which cannot be substantiated in the least!
Most research finds this made up quote by Leo X, or a variation of it, attributed to an ex-Carmelite friar and play writer (John Bale, 1495-1563) who converted to Protestantism in 1535. Bale enjoyed the protection and patronage of leading pro-Protestant factions in the court of Henry VIII. During this time he wrote a number of plays and several tracts that attacked the papacy.
In 1552, Under Edward VI Bale became a missionary bishop in Ireland (see of Ossory) where his attacks on Catholicism led the locals to storm his house and kill five servants. His polemic attacks on the Roman church earned him the nickname 'Bilious Bale' by the locals in Ireland.
Bale, a prolific writer, is known to have sworn to inflict as much damage upon the Roman church as possible, and in so doing, placed this above quote in the mouth of Leo X in his own writings, as shown in his 'The Pageant Of The Popes,' pages 179-180 of Vol. 2 (an 1835 reprint in 2 volumes), which was a satirical piece believed to be one of many Bale productions to defame Leo X.
This made up quote has been repeated by three or four hundred different writers, without any authority whatsoever, except that of the Bale referred to.
This Australian writer of "The Bible Fraud" is just the latest to use this lie in his book to sell copies.
